Airport to Kalamata City

Kalamata International Airport — officially named after Captain Vassilis Konstantakopoulos — sits about 9–11 km from the city centre (sources vary slightly on the exact figure). Either way, it's a short trip: 10–20 minutes by taxi or private transfer.

A taxi or private transfer to the city centre runs around €25 for up to 3 passengers. The public bus is the budget option, €1.80, running roughly every 30 minutes until late. There are two bus lines to know about — one goes directly to the Kalamata bus station with no stops, the other detours via Nosokomeio, the general hospital — so check which one you board if you want the direct route.

Airport to Costa Navarino

This is arguably the more important route from this airport than the city itself — the airport was specifically expanded and named after the visionary behind Costa Navarino, and a large share of arriving passengers are headed straight there, not into Kalamata.

The distance is about 45 km, 45–50 minutes via the EO82 highway toward Pylos, through olive groves and traditional villages with glimpses of the Mediterranean along the way. Pricing genuinely varies more here than for the short city hop — real quotes span roughly €40–70 or more for a private transfer depending on operator and vehicle, with shared shuttle options around €20 per person for those on a budget. Beyond Kalamata and Costa Navarino

The wider Messinia and Mani region has its own real demand from this airport. Stoupa, a popular beach town on the Mani peninsula, runs around €75 for up to 3 passengers. Kardamyli, Pylos, Methoni and Koroni are also common destinations — all doable as a direct transfer without routing through Kalamata city first.

Kalamata to Athens

For travelers continuing on to or arriving from Athens, expect a genuine 3–6 hour drive covering roughly 230 km, depending on your exact start and end points. Several local operators run this route daily as a scheduled or on-demand service rather than a one-off private booking.

No Train

Kalamata does have a historic railway station, but it's been out of passenger service since 2010, with even seasonal services ending in 2016. If a guide or map suggests taking the train, it's out of date — transfer, taxi, or bus are the only real options.
