Rhodes has a problem that most Greek islands would envy: it has too much to offer. A medieval walled city that rivals Dubrovnik. An ancient acropolis perched above a whitewashed village. Sandy beaches that stretch for kilometers.
Mountain villages where winemaking hasn't changed in centuries. And 300 days of sunshine per year β the island was sacred to Helios for a reason.
The hotel scene reflects this abundance. Rhodes has medieval-mansion boutiques where you sleep inside six centuries of Crusader history. It has romantic clifftop retreats overlooking the most photographed village in the Dodecanese.
It has family resorts where the biggest decision is which pool to use. And it has all of this at prices that make the Cyclades look overpriced β which, compared to Rhodes, they often are.
The key is matching the hotel to the experience you want. The Old Town, Lindos, Faliraki, and Ixia are not interchangeable β they're fundamentally different propositions, and the right hotel in the wrong location can leave you feeling like you've visited the wrong island.
For the area-by-area breakdown, read our where to stay in Rhodes guide. For the full island experience, see our Rhodes travel guide. This article focuses on the hotels.

Old Town Boutique Hotels
The medieval Old Town of Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site β the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe β and staying inside the walls is an experience that no other Greek island can match. The hotels here occupy former Crusader buildings, Ottoman mansions, and Byzantine structures that have been restored with varying degrees of ambition. The best of them make the history palpable without sacrificing comfort.
Kokkini Porta Rossa
The most atmospheric boutique hotel in Rhodes Old Town β and a strong candidate for the most atmospheric on any Greek island. Kokkini Porta Rossa occupies a restored Ottoman mansion with six individually designed rooms arranged around a courtyard garden where breakfast is served under bougainvillea. The building dates from the sixteenth century: stone walls, arched doorways, wooden ceilings, and the weight of history in every surface.
What elevates this hotel beyond its physical beauty is the owners' passion. They know the Old Town's history intimately and share stories that no guidebook includes β the building's Ottoman past, the Jewish quarter nearby, the hidden details of the medieval architecture. Staying here feels less like booking a hotel and more like being invited into someone's extraordinary home.
Price range: β¬130β280/night
Best for: Couples, history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, anyone who values character and story
Good to know: Only six rooms β book well ahead. No elevator; narrow medieval staircase. Luggage must be carried from the nearest gate β the hotel can arrange assistance. The deep-Old-Town location means you're immersed in the medieval atmosphere from the moment you walk through the gate.

Spirit of the Knights
A medieval mansion restoration that leans toward contemporary luxury within the old-stone framework. Suites are spacious with modern bathrooms, quality linens, and a design sensibility that respects the building's age without being trapped by it. A small plunge pool in the courtyard provides relief from summer heat. The location β steps from the Palace of the Grand Master and the Street of the Knights β is superb.
Consistently ranked among the highest-rated hotels in all of Rhodes by guests. The combination of medieval atmosphere, modern comfort, and personal service creates an experience that most five-star resorts can't touch.
Price range: β¬160β350/night
Best for: Couples wanting luxury inside the medieval walls, history enthusiasts who don't want to sacrifice comfort
Good to know: Courtyard-access suites are the best rooms. Air conditioning is effective β essential when medieval stone walls trap August heat. One of the most consistently praised hotels on any Greek island.

Lindos Hotels
Lindos is the most photographed village on Rhodes β a cascade of whitewashed houses beneath a Doric acropolis β and staying here, particularly overnight when the day-trippers leave, is one of the great Greek island experiences.
Melenos Lindos
The most celebrated hotel on Rhodes and one of the finest boutique properties on any Greek island. Twelve individually designed suites built into the hillside beneath the acropolis, each decorated with Ottoman-inspired interiors β hand-painted tiles, antique furniture, carved wooden ceilings β and terraces overlooking St. Paul's Bay. The rooftop restaurant serves Rhodian-Mediterranean food with a view that renders conversation unnecessary.
This is a hotel with a soul. The owner's obsession with Lindos's history and craftsmanship shows in every tile, every doorframe, every carefully chosen textile. Dinner on the rooftop is a non-negotiable, guest or not.
Price range: β¬350β800/night
Best for: Honeymooners, couples celebrating milestones, architecture and design lovers
Good to know: Only twelve suites β book months ahead. The hillside means lots of steps; not suitable for mobility issues. The reward is a view that redefines expectations. See our best Greek islands for couples for more romantic picks.

Practical Tips for Rhodes Hotels
Old Town logistics. Driving inside the Old Town walls is impossible. Hotels inside the walls are accessed on foot through the gates. This means carrying luggage the last stretch β most hotels can arrange porter assistance. Park at the lots outside the gates. The inconvenience is a tiny price for the experience of waking up inside a medieval city.
Day trips. Symi β one of the most photogenic harbors in all of Greece β is an essential day trip. Fast boats take about an hour. The pastel neoclassical mansions rising up the hillside are extraordinary. Book a Symi day trip on GetYourGuide.
When to visit. Rhodes has 300+ days of sunshine β one of the most reliable destinations in Europe. June and September are ideal. JulyβAugust are very hot, windy (meltemi), and crowded. May and October are warm and uncrowded β excellent for sightseeing. Rhodes has a longer season than most islands; some hotels operate into November. See our Greece weather guide.
Value proposition. Rhodes offers 30β50% better value than the Cyclades for comparable quality. A medieval Old Town boutique: β¬130β280 (vs β¬250β500 on Santorini). A five-star all-inclusive: β¬200β500 (vs β¬350β900 on Mykonos). A budget hotel: β¬60β140. See our cost guide.
Combining with other islands. Rhodes pairs naturally with the Dodecanese: Kos (ferry or short flight), Symi (day trip), Patmos, Karpathos. A Dodecanese island-hopping route is an excellent, less-crowded alternative to the Cyclades. See our 7-day and 10-day itineraries. Let our AI trip planner build a custom route.
