Greece's party island reputation is accurate but imprecise. The country has multiple distinct party ecosystems, each serving a different market with different expectations, price points, and social characters. The mistake most visitors make is choosing Mykonos because they have heard of it without checking whether it is actually what they want โ or choosing Ios because it is cheaper without knowing what it actually is.
This guide covers every major Greek party island with the specificity required to actually choose: who goes there, what a night out costs, what the best clubs and beach bars are, and what distinguishes each island's nightlife from the others.
For the broader Mykonos context, see the Mykonos travel guide. For Corfu generally, see the Corfu travel guide.
The Party Islands: Ranked and Reviewed
1. Mykonos: The Flagship
Best for: International visitors of all ages (22โ50) who want a complete experience alongside excellent nightlife; couples who want sophistication; anyone who wants the best beach clubs in Greece
Not for: Budget travellers; people who want the "classic Greek island" experience alongside the party
Price level: โ
โ
โ
โ
โ
(the most expensive)
Mykonos has been the most famous party destination in Greece since the 1970s and its reputation is justified in both directions โ it is genuinely extraordinary and genuinely expensive. The island's nightlife divides into three distinct experiences:
The beach clubs (day/afternoon party): Nammos, Scorpios, Tropicana, and Jackie O' operate during the day and afternoon โ the music builds through the afternoon, the sunbeds fill with sunbathers who are also dancing, and the whole elaborate performance of Mykonos beach club culture unfolds in full daylight. This is the experience most distinctive to Mykonos โ no other Greek island has beach clubs at this level. Nammos and Scorpios are the premium options; Tropicana and Paradise Beach Club are more accessible price points.
The Mykonos best beach clubs crawl day party visits Tropicana, Paradise Beach Club, Superparadise Beach Club, and Jackie O' on Super Paradise Beach โ four of the island's best clubs across two beaches in a single guided afternoon, with transport between them. The organised crawl format makes it easy to experience the full range without navigating the bus logistics independently.
The boat parties (sunset/evening): The Mykonos boat party scene is one of the island's best-value nightlife experiences โ departure from the Old Port, swimming stops, music, and drinks. The Mykonos sunset party boat cruise (3 hours, departing from the Old Port, with swim stop and sunset views of Little Venice) is the accessible entry point. The Mykonos sunset boat party with open bar and live DJ (with unlimited cocktails and spirits, live DJ, and swim stops) is the premium version โ one of the more consistently reviewed party experiences available on the island.

The clubs (late night): VOID (techno and house, Old Town), Guapaloca (Old Town), and Cavo Paradiso (the legendary open-air cliffside club above Paradise Beach) form the core of Mykonos's late-night club scene. Cavo Paradiso is the one with genuine international reputation โ the cliff setting, the Aegean below, and the international DJ bookings make it one of the finest club experiences in Europe.

What it costs: A beach club day (sunbed + service + drinks): โฌ100โ300 per person. A dinner at a good restaurant: โฌ60โ100 per person. Cavo Paradiso entry: โฌ30โ60 plus drinks. A cocktail at a premium beach club: โฌ18โ25. This is expensive. Mykonos is one of the most expensive nightlife destinations in Europe.
The September closing parties: For serious club-goers, September is the month โ Cavo Paradiso and other venues host their end-of-season closing events with some of the best DJ bookings of the year. See the Mykonos in September guide.
2. Ios: The Backpacker Classic
Best for: 18โ28 year olds; solo travellers wanting to meet people; anyone who wants maximum nightlife density per square metre at a fraction of Mykonos prices
Not for: Couples wanting a romantic stay; anyone over 35 who wants a quieter experience; visitors who want Greek culture alongside party
Price level: โ
โ
โ
(mid-range; significantly cheaper than Mykonos)
Ios is the most concentrated party experience in Greece. The island's main settlement โ the Chora, perched on a hill above the port โ has a genuinely extraordinary density of bars, clubs, and drinking establishments packed into a small number of whitewashed lanes. The nightlife here is not an added extra to an island destination; it is essentially the entire point.
The sequence of a good Ios night: beach until late afternoon (Mylopotas Beach, 10 minutes by bus from the port, is the main party beach with its own beach bar scene), then the port area for early evening food and drinks, then the Chora from around 11pm onward as the lanes fill and the music from competing bars creates a permanent wall of sound.

Key venues in Ios Chora: Ios Club (the main late-night club, with a terrace over the village), Scorpion, the drag-themed Joy bar (famous for its energy and inclusive crowd), and dozens of smaller bars along the main Chora lane and its offshoots.
The [Ios pub crawl](https://www.getyourguide.com/chora-ios-l179084/ios-pub-crawl-with-5-venues-5-shots-and-5-vip-entrances-t886186/) (5 venues, 5 shots, 5 VIP entrances) is the organised entry point to the Chora's nightlife โ it handles the sequence of venues and gives participants free entry to the busiest spots while meeting other visitors. Particularly good for solo travellers who want the social structure of a group before going independent.
What it costs: A cocktail in Ios Chora: โฌ8โ12. A night out budget (including entry to a few venues and drinks): โฌ40โ70. Accommodation at a budget guesthouse: โฌ25โ60/night. Food at a Chora taverna: โฌ15โ25. This is genuinely affordable by Greek island standards.
Best season for Ios: Late June through late August โ Ios is a highly seasonal island and the nightlife depends on crowd density. Early September is still good; by early October most venues have closed.
See the Ios travel guide.
3. Kavos (Corfu): The British Package Party Resort
Best for: 18โ25 year old British travellers who want a specific British package holiday experience in warm weather; anyone who has no interest in Greek culture and maximum interest in cheap drinks and loud music
Not for: International visitors expecting a Greek cultural experience; anyone over 30 who wants any sophistication; non-British visitors (the culture is specifically British)
Price level: โ
โ
โ
(cheap by Greek island standards, expensive if you drink heavily)
Kavos is at the extreme southern tip of Corfu โ far enough from the beautiful Corfu that described in every other tourism context to feel like a separate country. The resort is a 2-km strip of budget hotels, bars playing commercial music at high volume, nightclub venues, and shops selling sunscreen and souvenir shots. It is specifically designed for the 18โ25 British package holiday market and serves that market with high efficiency.
There is nothing subtle about Kavos. The bars are open until dawn. The drink deals are aggressive. The crowd is almost exclusively British 18โ25. The music is chart pop, commercial dance, and whatever is on the Radio 1 playlist. If this is what you want โ and many people do โ Kavos delivers reliably. It is not pretending to be anything else.
The waterpark, boat trips, and organised events: Kavos operators run organised party events โ booze cruises, foam parties, waterpark packages โ that are the primary activity outside the bar strip. The Kavos booze cruise party (departing from Lefkimmi) is the most popular organised event โ a boat party that combines sea swimming, music, and a serious open bar.
What it costs: A shot in Kavos: โฌ2โ4. A cocktail: โฌ6โ10. An evening's drinks budget: โฌ30โ50. The prices are genuinely cheap by Greek standards โ this is part of the appeal.
Important note for Corfu first-timers: If you are visiting Corfu specifically for the UNESCO Old Town, Paleokastritsa, and the island's beautiful northwest coast, Kavos is a completely separate experience on a different part of the island. You can visit both on the same trip, but they share only the island name.
4. Faliraki (Rhodes): Mediterranean Party Resort
Best for: Young British, German, and Scandinavian visitors who want organised resort nightlife; people who want party nightlife combined with a beach resort with daytime activities
Not for: Cultural tourists; visitors who want authentic Greek island life; anyone seeking sophistication
Price level: โ
โ
โ
(mid-range; cheaper than Mykonos, similar to Kavos)
Faliraki is Rhodes's party resort โ a developed strip of bars and clubs on the island's northeast coast, 14 km from Rhodes Town. Its party reputation peaked in the early 2000s and has calmed somewhat since stricter regulations were introduced, but it remains a significant nightlife destination with a British and northern European crowd.
The key distinction between Faliraki and Kavos: Faliraki is attached to a beach that is genuinely good (Faliraki Beach is wide, sandy, and well-organised), and Rhodes Town is only 15 km away and offers one of the finest medieval cities in the Mediterranean as a counterpoint. A day at the beach in Faliraki and an evening in Rhodes Town's medieval Old Town is a genuinely good combination that Kavos cannot offer.

Rhodes Old Town nightlife: The Old Town itself has a vibrant nightlife scene centred on Orfanidou Street (known locally as "Bar Street") and the alleys of the medieval city. The combination of the 14th-century stone architecture and the late-night bars is specific to Rhodes and worth experiencing. The Rhodes Old Town pub crawl visits 4โ5 bars and clubs in the medieval city with free welcome shots and drink discounts โ a fun way to navigate Bar Street with a group.

See the Rhodes travel guide.
5. Zakynthos (Laganas): The Budget Party Beach
Best for: Young British visitors wanting a cheap beach holiday with party options; families and party crowds coexisting on the same island (in different areas)
Not for: Visitors who want Greek culture or sophistication; visitors who care about sea turtle nesting conservation in Laganas Bay
Price level: โ
โ
โ
(cheap to mid-range)
Zakynthos (Zante) hosts two completely different experiences in one island: the extraordinary beauty of Navagio Beach, the Blue Caves, and the sea turtle marine park in the south and east โ and the package holiday party resort of Laganas on Laganas Bay in the south.
Laganas is the Greek equivalent of Faliraki: a resort strip of budget accommodation, bars, and clubs specifically aimed at young British package visitors. The beach is long and sandy. The prices are low. The nightlife centres on a high-energy strip of bars.

The conservation tension: Laganas Bay is the most important loggerhead sea turtle nesting site in the Mediterranean. The National Marine Park regulations restrict beach access and watersports in nesting zones. The party resort of Laganas is in direct proximity to these nesting beaches โ a tension that exists on the island and that environmentally conscious visitors should be aware of.
Beyond Laganas: Zakynthos itself is genuinely beautiful. The boat trip to Navagio Beach (Shipwreck Beach), the Blue Caves, and the Marathonisi turtle island are all remarkable. If you visit Zakynthos and spend your entire time in Laganas, you have missed most of what makes the island worth visiting.

See the Zakynthos travel guide.
Is Crete a Party Island?
Crete is Greece's largest island and has nightlife, but it is not primarily a party island in the way Mykonos or Ios are. The main towns โ Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno โ each have excellent nightlife scenes oriented toward a mixed local-and-tourist crowd: good bars, good live music, waterfront restaurants active until 2am.
Heraklion nightlife: The city has a genuine urban nightlife scene. The Korai Street area and the Lions Square (Eleftherias) are the centres. Greek pop, rock venues, and a working Cretan nightlife culture that feels authentically local rather than tourist-facing. Less specifically "party" and more genuinely good night out.
Malia (north central Crete): Malia is Crete's closest equivalent to a party resort โ a beach resort town with a strip of bars and clubs specifically aimed at young British tourists. Far more developed as a party destination than Heraklion, and far less culturally interesting. The search for "Crete party town" typically leads to Malia.

Chania: Chania's old harbour and nearby streets have a lively but more sophisticated nightlife โ cocktail bars, jazz venues, rooftop bars with harbour views. Not a party town in the Mykonos sense but an excellent place to spend an evening.

See the Crete travel guide.

Practical Party Greece Tips
Book accommodation early for July-August. All party islands reach accommodation capacity in July-August. Book by April for the best choice and price.
Budget separately for nightlife. The difference between a Mykonos week and an Ios week in nightlife costs can be โฌ500โ1,000 per person. This affects which island makes financial sense.
The closing parties matter. For Mykonos specifically (Cavo Paradiso, Paradise Beach Club, VOID), the September closing events are genuinely worth planning around. Some visitors come specifically for the closing parties and choose their dates accordingly.
Party boat trips are available on every island. Even on islands not primarily known for nightlife, sunset boat parties are a festive and social way to spend an evening at sea.
The islands close. Most party resort infrastructure on Ios, Kavos, and Zakynthos closes in October. Mykonos closes later (early November) and has more year-round residents. Plan your party holiday for June through September; October is genuinely possible for Mykonos but risky for the others.
